About the CEI Centers
The New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute Clinical Education Initiative (CEI) is designed to meet the educational needs of HIV providers throughout New York State by:
  • Offering clinically relevant, up-to-date education and training on current topics in HIV
  • Connecting providers to HIV educational opportunities throughout New York State
  • Responding to providers' needs for immediate assistance regarding Post-Exposure Prophylaxis and general clinical consultation through the PEP Line and CEI Line
  • Providing resources and educational opportunities on the web, including webcasts, podcasts, and self-assessment tools
  • Offering CME credits for participation in educational activities, both in-person and on-line
  • Assisting HIV programs in developing a training plan for their faculty and staff
  • Keeping providers connected to the latest clinical guidelines and public health initiatives
  • Collaborating with the NY/NJ AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) and other educational organizations to reach HIV providers across the state

The Resource, Referral and Evaluation Center serves as a centralized resource for HIV education and training opportunities throughout New York State, including offerings from the AETC and other professional organizations. The center will also be available to assist HIV programs in developing comprehensive HIV education plans for clinical and nonclinical staff.

The PEP, Testing and Diagnosis Center targets emergency departments, urgent care providers and private providers to increase screening for HIV, identify unrecognized infection, and implement post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP and nPEP). This center also operates the PEP Line, a 24-hour provider consultation line for the management of Post-Exposure Prophylaxis. PEP Hotline: 1-888-448-4911.

The Mental Health Center trains clinicians in the identification and management of the mental health issues most commonly encountered by HIV providers.

The Evaluation Center designs evaluation plans for CEI centers and analyzes cross-center data about CEI training programs.

Prevention and Substance Use

The Prevention and Substance Use Center offers training for HIV primary care providers in addressing prevention for positives and substance use through increased screening, risk assessments, and behavioral counseling. Providers learn how to use brief interventions and motivational interviewing in addressing their patients' specific risk behaviors.

The Upstate Center provides general HIV clinical education and training for community providers in upstate New York. Clinicians will be updated on the latest NYS HIV guidelines for the management of patients with HIV/AIDS.
